An Interesting Business Space Inspired by Screw Threads

The Screws Office, designed by Mei-Lin Hsu and Ya-Ching Chuang, is an interior design project that showcases the creativity and ingenuity of the designers. This office, located in Taichung City, Taiwan, is the workplace of a screw mold manufacturer. The designers drew inspiration from the image of screw threads to create a unique and captivating business space.

The office features several elements that reflect the design concept. In the reception hall, clear spiral lines and round recessed ceiling lamps create an uncultivated atmosphere. The meeting room, on the other hand, showcases a curved wall and grey glass that vividly display the image of a screw thread. These design elements not only enhance the visual appeal of the space but also contribute to a sense of openness and smooth configuration.

One of the standout features of the Screws Office is the incorporation of screw-head style elements throughout the space. From the partial-public meeting room to the office area, the design brings the idea of a screw head to life. The curved wall and grey glass symbolize the core value of the company, while the storage cabinets and bright interior create a comfortable and welcoming work environment.

The designers also paid attention to the interaction between the space and its occupants. The unpolished lounge area, plant wall, and bar provide a pleasant and joyful indoor space for both staff and clients. Additionally, the chairman's office is designed to create a composed atmosphere, with the use of dark room characteristics and grey glass, allowing for moments of reflection and meditation.

The Screws Office project faced several challenges, including the need to create a specifically designed area for the chairman to ponder business policies and strategies. The designers overcame these challenges by incorporating an art wall that segregates the area, providing a wonderful space for the chairman's contemplation.

The Screws Office was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2018. This prestigious award recognizes designs that demonstrate creativity, resourcefulness, and a commitment to improving quality of life through art, science, design, and technology.
